Eva Tree "Sail Away" CD Release Show
on Bainbridge Island
Seattle, WA, 08/21/2006 - Canadian singer-songwriter, Eva Tree (Ay-vah), has just released her second full length CD, Sail Away. In celebration and support of this new release, there will be a CD Release Show at Island Center Hall on Saturday, September 30, 2006 8:00 PM. She will be appearing with her band: Bill Dickerson (guitar), Alicia Healey (bass), Sean Bendickson (drums), Dan Tyack (steel/dobro). The opening act will be Canadian singer/songwriter Jude Davison, who also produced Eva's new CD. Jude will also be performing with Eva Tree (harmonies/mandolin). Tickets are $10 at the door.
Sail Away is receiving tremendous reviews in the UK and abroad. Maverick music magazine gives it a 4 of 4 star rating and comments "A rootsy Americana album from an exciting newcomer you need to seek out." In the review, editor Alan Cackett writes, "I honestly have not been moved by an unknown artist like this since I first heard Mindy Smith four or five years ago. A highly recommended rootsy Americana album to treasure."
Eva's introspective and hauntingly beautiful songs liken her to other pared down confessional singers like Beth Orton, Fiest, and Australian crossover-country singer, Kasey Chambers. Italian DJ Massimo Ferro (Highway61), has also compared her to "a young Natalie Merchant", and writes that Sail Away is "One of the best debuts from a female North American singer-songwriter this year!"
The singing on Sail Away is raw and unadorned to a stripped down beauty, and most choruses are complimented by producer Jude Davison. His harmonies add a warmth of tone that combine with Eva's vocal to create a complexity and sweetness of sound which is right at the crossroads where heart-yearning melancholy meets joyful. Guitars, mandolin, dobro, cello and accordion infuse the album with a sepia sun-drenched old-time mountain sound which charms with its back porch simplicity and lack of pretension.
Although she now calls Seattle home, Eva Tree hearkens from the same deep mountain woods of British Columbia as The Be Good Tanyas, of whom, Frazey Ford appears as a guest artist on the CD.
The Island Center Hall has a small build-in stage and seats around 100, and is located at 8395 Fletcher Bay Road NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110. (Closest cross street is High School Road). It belongs to the Bainbridge Island Parks and Recreation District. Bainbridge concert promoter Norm Johnson is helping to put the event on, and says that it's his favorite place to do shows!
